between the two cities deputies responded. investigators say the shooting happened around 5:25 last night. longtime residents say the shooting doesn't surprise them too much, they've heard shots before, just further down the road. >> we've had shots, nothing this close. first time this close. it is unnerving, very. >> it start happening more and more it seems like more and more people are moving here from the city as the population grows things happen. >> reporter: investigators state victims are from san francisco, a man and woman in their 20s were killed. they haven't released their names. investigators are having a tough time they don't have much information they don't know whether the pair was walking or taken by car. they have interviewed people and have a few descriptions of a car leaving the area but they are all different. they haven't made any arrests and don't have suspects. >> i'm alarmed. i don't know what -- i feel safe most of the time. which cities are in the running to host a super bowl in 2016 or 2017. leaders from san francisco down to santa clara have been working to the 49ers to put in a bid to host the game. if hosted, san francisco would be reportedly the official host city and would have an event leading up to the game. some fans in the south bay who live there have mixed feelings. >> that would an little weird but i can see why because there's a lot more things to do in san francisco rather than santa clara. it -- it will be a little weird. >> reporter: the santa clara mayor told us that he believes his city will economically benefit as well. the stadium here in santa clara is scheduled to open for the 2014 season. but according to league rules it can't host until 2016. the only previous super bowl in the bay area was at stanford stadium in 1985. now we put in a call to the 49ers spokesperson and are hoping to hear back from him but we haven't just yet. reporting live from santa clara, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. >>> 7:06. it's a little foggy out there. >> yeah. >> we'll ha

on long island just east of new york city for the second of three debates between president obama and mitt romney. the candidates will take questions from uncommitted voters-- 82 of those voters will be on the stage behind me. can the president use this stage to bounce back from what he admits was a bad night at the first debate. a night that turned out to be a game changer. after that first debate, the race went from dead even to a slight but steady lead for governor romney-- though within the margin of error. but now have a look at this. the latest gallup poll out today shows he has opened a four-point lead over the president, 50% to 46%. that is outside the margin of error. so a small but genuine and growing lead. and this was surprising today. gallup shows that in the tossup states that are likely to tip the balance, romney has cut deeply into one of the president's major strengths. he still trails mr. obama among women, but now by just a single point. we'll see if later polls bear that out. we have a team of campaign 2012 correspondents covering the debate and we're going to go first
